Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Moong dal
  • 8 slices Bread
  • 2 Tablespoons Chopped onion
  • as needed Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon Finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Chili powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Garam masala powder
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons Ginger-green chili paste
  • Oil (as needed, for frying)

Instructions

  1. Wash the dal and cook it gently in water until just done, not mushy. Drain the water, squeeze out the dal, and place it in a basin.
  2. Dip each bread slice in water and immediately squeeze it out, then add it to the dal. Mix in the rest of the listed ingredients.
  3. Roll into small, lemon-sized balls, then shape each into a finger-length cylinder. Deep-fry in hot oil until golden and serve with tomato sauce.
  4. Note: squeeze both the dal and the bread out thoroughly, or the mixture will fall apart while frying. If it does fall apart, mix in a little rice flour to bind it.
