Ingredients
- 1 cup Chana dal
- 1 cup Finely chopped mint leaves
- 1/3 cup Finely chopped coriander leaves
- as needed Salt
- Oil (as needed, for frying)
- 1 inch piece Ginger (to grind)
- 10 Green chili (to grind)
Instructions
- Wash the chana dal, cover with water, and soak for 2 hours.
- Once well soaked, drain the water and grind coarsely, the way you would for vadai batter.
- Add salt at the end, then add the chopped mint, coriander, and the ground paste, and mix everything well.
- Add 2 tablespoons of hot oil into this and mix.
- Roll into small balls and deep-fry in hot oil until golden.
- Note: wash and chop the mint, and mix it into the batter right away -- if left standing after chopping, it turns bitter. Rubbing in a little fine salt lets it keep a while longer.
